2. Where total income exceeds Tshs. 135,000/= but less than Tshs. 360,000/=

14% of the amount in excess of Tshs. 135,000/=

3. Where total income exceeds Tshs. 360,000/= but less than Tshs. 540,000/=

Tshs. 31,500/= plus 20% of the amount in excess of Tshs 360,000/=

4. Where total income exceeds Tshs. 540,000/= but less than Tshs. 720,000/=

Tshs. 67,500/= plus 25% of the amount in excess of Tshs 540,000/=

5. Where total income exceeds Tshs. 720,000/=

Tshs. 112,500/=plus 30% of the amount in excess of Tshs 720 ,000/=

As per the Local Government Finances Act of 1982, the Service Levy should be a ‘tax’ payable by corporate entities to the local government authorities at a rate not exceeding 0.3 percent of the turnover net of the value added and the excise duty.

Companies do not pay this type of tax because LGAs who are required to enforce payments of the same are sometimes silent, that is, they do not act on those who do not pay the levy. LGAs were supposed to provide education to corporate entities so that they can improve their revenue to finance public projects and service to all residents of the respective local authority.
